Southern California is famous for its sunny beaches, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty, and living here is a dream come true for many people. Our perfect weather, and the warm, sunny climate allow us to enjoy the outdoors all year round.
Soak up the Sun
Although the Pacific Ocean is fairly cold compared to the Atlantic Ocean, you can still enjoy the beach and the water all year long. Snorkeling and surfing are popular activities in the Golden State.
My favorite beach activity in Los Angeles is riding my bike on the path right on the sand. I start at my house and ride on the streets to the Ballona Creek path and then head west to Playa Del Rey. From there I merge onto the bike path on the beach and head south. This path can be tricky because it is surrounded by sand, so be careful when riding on the beach bike path, especially at higher speeds. I usually ride to Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach, have a late breakfast and head back home on the same path. This beautiful coastal ride is about 30 miles both ways.
If you would rather relax, I recommend spending the day on the beach reading a great book. Enjoying the ocean breeze and walking barefoot on the sand will invigorate your body and soul.
Don’t want sand between your toes? Soak up the sun by the pool. A great daycation option is to spend a sunny day poolside at a luxury hotel or resort in the area with a ResortPass.
Whether you choose to enjoy the sunny days in Southern California on the beach or by the pool, make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen, drink lots of water and always have a swimsuit at the ready. Here are some great choices that are comfortable for any impromptu dive:
These swimsuits are very lightweight, and easy to be carried in your bag throughout the day. They also dry very quickly, making the ride home a lot easier.
Other Outdoor Activities
A highlight of living in California is its incredible natural beauty. For those who love the outdoors, California is a true paradise. The state is home to many national parks, including Yosemite, Redwoods, and Joshua Tree, and there are endless opportunities to explore and discover the breathtaking landscapes.
One of the most popular day trips in Southern California is hiking on the Santa Monica Mountains. Even during the winter you can enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean and the mountains. A couple of weeks ago I went hiking with my husband and some friends at the Topanga State Park. There are many trails in that park and you can never go wrong. This time we visited the Lois Ewen Overlook. I wonder who painted all that?
Sun All Year Round
We do get many cold days in California, but the sun shines bright in the Golden State almost every day of the year.
It comes as no surprise that California ranks #1 in the number of solar panels in the country. California is also the second state with most pools in the United States with an estimated 1.4 million pools (Florida ranks #1).
Southern California is a dream come true for many people, and with its sunny beaches, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty, it's easy to see why. Whether you're seeking endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, a rich cultural experience, or simply a place to call home, Southern California has something for everyone.
